We serve both sides of the county line, so Amityville homeowners get the same crew and the same phone number as our Nassau customers.

Older and more varied than its Nassau neighbors.
Amityville was incorporated on March 3, 1894. In the early 1900s it was a bayfront resort with large hotels and big homes, according to Wikipedia's village history. The housing still shows it. The Census Bureau's latest five-year survey counts about 4,100 homes. A quarter (25%) were built before 1940 and about half (52%) before 1960, with a median year built of 1959. Next door in Massapequa Park, only 3% of homes are pre-1940. Only 57% of Amityville homes are single-family detached; the rest are attached houses, two-families and apartments. About 74% are owner-occupied.
That mix changes the plumbing. Pre-war houses often mix original lines with decades of patches. Multi-unit buildings share drain stacks, so one tenant's clog can become everyone's backup. We look at the whole system before replacing parts.
Gas is the main heat, but oil is still common.
The ACS shows 66% of homes heat with utility gas, 19% with fuel oil and 13% with electricity. Converting from oil means new gas piping to the equipment and often to the water heater. We do the gas line work. We don't deliver oil.
Sewer or cesspool? Check before you call.
Amityville sits in Suffolk County, where sewer coverage is patchier than in Nassau. Suffolk County Sewer District No. 3 (Southwest) covers parts of the Towns of Babylon and Islip. Some homes in and around Amityville are on public sewer and some still drain to cesspools. This matters when your drains back up. On a cesspool, a backup can be a clogged house drain or a full or failing cesspool. We clear the main drain; if it backs up again right away, the cesspool is the likely cause. If it's the cesspool itself, that's a job for a cesspool contractor; we don't do cesspool work.
Water from the Suffolk County Water Authority.
Amityville homes get public water from the Suffolk County Water Authority (SCWA), not a Nassau water district. For a leak at the curb or in the street, call SCWA. For anything on your side of the meter, call us.
Water is part of the village.
About 15% of the village's total area is water. It reaches the Great South Bay to the south and borders Copiague to the east and south and North Amityville to the north. Waterfront homes have more exposure to storm flooding, so check water heaters, gas appliances and low cleanouts after a big surge. If your home is on the public sewer, a backwater (sewer check) valve on the house line can keep a street-sewer backup from coming in through low drains. We install them.

Questions
Amityville plumbing FAQ
Do you work in Suffolk County?
Yes. We serve Amityville and the Towns of Babylon, Huntington and western Islip, as well as all of Nassau County.
My drains back up and I think I have a cesspool. Can you help?
We can clear the house's main drain. If it's clear and water still won't go down, the cesspool itself is likely full or failing, and that's a job for a cesspool or septic contractor. We don't do cesspool work or install septic systems.
My house was built before 1940. Do I need to re-pipe?
Not automatically. We inspect the supply and drain lines and fix what's failing. Many older homes need targeted repairs, not a full re-pipe.
I own a two-family house and both units back up. What's going on?
Usually the clog is in the shared stack or the main, below where the units' lines join. It has to be cleared from a cleanout, not from one unit's sink. We'll find the blockage and clear it.
Who do I call for a leak at the street?
SCWA, for anything on their side of the meter. Call us for anything on your side.
When can I reach you in Amityville?
We answer calls 24/7. We're open Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday. Call (631) 644-2084.
