The Merchant Marine Academy village.

Wikipedia says the village incorporated in November 1924 and is named for the King family; in 1942 the federal government bought land here, including Walter P. Chrysler's former estate, for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, which Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated in 1943. Little Neck Bay, the Long Island Sound and Manhasset Bay surround it on three sides. It covers 4.0 square miles, 16% of it water.

The Census Bureau's latest five-year survey counts about 1,500 homes, with a median year built of 1961. 31% went up in the 1950s, 13% before 1940, and 30% after 1980. 98% are single-family detached houses, and 96% are owner-occupied.

So a typical house here has drain and water lines around 65 years old unless they've been replaced. Slow drains in several fixtures, a gurgling floor drain or rusty water from one tap are signs to have the main line and supply piping checked.

Oil to gas means new gas piping.

The ACS shows 78% of homes heat with utility gas and 18% with fuel oil. Switching means properly sized gas piping to the new equipment, and often to the water heater, range and dryer. We do the gas line work. We don't sell or deliver oil.

Cesspools and septic, mostly.

Nassau County's health department list of sewer collection districts shows Kings Point as not publicly sewered, and Wikipedia says the overwhelming majority of the village relies on cesspools and septic systems (the Merchant Marine Academy runs its own sewer system). We clear the line from the house, but a full or failing cesspool is a job for a cesspool or septic contractor; we don't do cesspool work, and we don't install septic systems.

Flood risk.

Laying FEMA's current flood map over the Census boundary, about 24% of Kings Point is in the high-risk (1% annual chance) flood zone (17.8% in zone VE, 5.3% in zone AE, 0.9% in zone A; shares of the Census area, water included). If your water heater or gas appliances ever sat in flood water, have them checked before relighting.

Water: Water Authority of Great Neck North.

EPA's service-area map puts essentially all residents on the Water Authority of Great Neck North; your bill is the final word. The main supplier's most recent 90th-percentile lead result was 3 ppb, under the 15 ppb action level; lead usually comes from a home's own pipes and fixtures, so results vary house to house. In EPA's UCMR 5 testing, the main supplier reported no PFOA or PFOS. For a leak at the curb or in the street, call your water supplier. For anything on your side of the meter, call us.

Permits.

Kings Point is an incorporated village, so plumbing permits go through the Village of Kings Point's building department, not the town.

Yes, all of Kings Point (ZIP 11023, 11024), plus the neighboring communities listed below.
Is Kings Point on a sewer or a cesspool?
Most homes here use a cesspool or septic system; a sewer district charge on your tax bill means you're connected. We clear the house drain line, but cesspool pumping or replacement is for a cesspool or septic contractor.
Who supplies my water?
EPA's service-area map puts essentially all residents on the Water Authority of Great Neck North. Your bill says which. For leaks at the curb or meter, call the supplier; inside the house, call us.
Can you handle the gas piping when I switch from oil to gas?
Yes, we install and repair gas lines for heating equipment and appliances.
When can I reach you in Kings Point?
We answer calls 24/7. We're open Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday. Call (631) 644-2084.
