Between two parkways.
Wikipedia says the Meadowbrook State Parkway and the Southern State Parkway both pass through North Merrick, with the Meadowbrook forming much of its western border with Roosevelt and Uniondale; Camp Avenue, Jerusalem Avenue, Meadowbrook Road and Merrick Avenue are its main roads. The CDP covers 1.8 square miles at about 46 feet above sea level.
The Census Bureau's latest five-year survey counts about 4,200 homes, with a median year built of 1954. 43% went up in the 1950s, 8% before 1940, and 11% after 1980. 96% are single-family detached houses, and 95% are owner-occupied.
So a typical house here has drain and water lines around 72 years old unless they've been replaced. Slow drains in several fixtures, a gurgling floor drain or rusty water from one tap are signs to have the main line and supply piping checked.
Oil to gas means new gas piping.
The ACS shows 57% of homes heat with utility gas and 35% with fuel oil. Switching means properly sized gas piping to the new equipment, and often to the water heater, range and dryer. We do the gas line work. We don't sell or deliver oil.
On the sewer.
Nassau County's health department lists North Merrick's sewers under the Nassau County Department of Public Works (516-571-6841). A backup that stops at your house is usually in your own line to the street; we clear it and repair or replace the line. If neighbors are backed up too, call the county at 516-571-6841.
Flood risk.
Laying FEMA's current flood map over the Census boundary, about 3% of North Merrick is in the high-risk (1% annual chance) flood zone (2.9% in zone A; shares of the Census area, water included). On a sewered street, a backwater (sewer check) valve on your house sewer line can keep a street-sewer backup from coming in through basement floor drains. We install them. If your water heater or gas appliances ever sat in flood water, have them checked before relighting.
Water: Liberty Utilities New York's Merrick system.
EPA's service-area map puts about 70% of residents, with about 30% on the Town of Hempstead Water Department on Liberty Utilities New York's Merrick system; your bill is the final word. Liberty's 2026 report on 2025 water says the Merrick system draws from 16 wells in the Magothy aquifer; caustic soda raises the pH and a phosphate compound limits corrosion. Total hardness was just 1.6 to 19.3 mg/L, which is very soft, and across the whole Merrick district Liberty's state inventory counts 28 lead and 524 galvanized service lines on the customer side. Soft, low-mineral water is why corrosion control matters for old copper and galvanized pipe. For a leak at the curb, call Liberty at 1-877-426-6999. For a leak at the curb or in the street, call your water supplier. For anything on your side of the meter, call us.
Permits.
North Merrick is an unincorporated hamlet, so plumbing permits go through the Town of Hempstead Building Department (One Washington Street, Hempstead).

Questions
North Merrick plumbing FAQ
Do you cover all of North Merrick?
Yes, all of North Merrick (ZIP 11566), plus the neighboring communities listed below.
Sewage came up through my basement floor drain. Who do I call?
If it's only your house, the blockage is usually in your line to the street: call us. If neighbors have it too, the public sewer may be backed up: call the county at 516-571-6841.
Can a backwater valve keep sewage out of my basement?
That's what it's for. A backwater (sewer check) valve goes on your house sewer line and closes when the street sewer backs up, so sewage can't flow back in through floor drains and low fixtures. It has to be kept clear and checked from time to time to keep working. We install them. Call (631) 644-2084.
Is my house in the flood zone?
About 3% of North Merrick is in FEMA's high-risk zone. FEMA's Flood Map Service Center will show your exact address.
Who supplies my water?
EPA's service-area map puts about 70% of residents, with about 30% on the Town of Hempstead Water Department on Liberty Utilities New York's Merrick system. Your bill says which. For leaks at the curb or meter, call the supplier; inside the house, call us.
Can you handle the gas piping when I switch from oil to gas?
Yes, we install and repair gas lines for heating equipment and appliances.
When can I reach you in North Merrick?
We answer calls 24/7. We're open Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday. Call (631) 644-2084.
